Trainings

My Philosophy

I believe that research and practice belong together. Throughout my career as a clinician and educator, I have seen training that leans too far to one side. For example, therapists are handed dense academic findings without a clear path to applying them, or, just as often, practical tools that aren’t grounded in solid evidence. My work is built on the idea of wanting to bridge the gap.

Every training I offer is rooted in research I’ve authored and contributed to, which means you’re not learning from someone who has summarized the field, but rather you’re learning from someone who has helped shape it. I believe that credentials only matter if they translate into something useful, so I’ve designed my approach around three commitments.

  1. Accessibility: I keep the language clear and the tone conversational, because meaningful learning happens in dialogue, not lecture.
  2. Immediacy: you should leave every session with tools you can use in your therapy practice the next day. I don’t want to hand you a bunch of materials you stick in a binder and revisit at a later date.
  3. Integrity: I won’t teach a framework I haven’t tested, and I won’t recommend a technique I can’t defend with evidence.

What I want for the therapists I work with is the same thing I want for my own practice. I want therapists to feel confident that what we’re doing is both grounded in the research and literature and genuinely helpful to the people in front of us. That’s the standard I hold myself to, and it’s what shapes everything I create.

“Not only does Ahou exhibit the qualities necessary to be an outstanding clinician herself, but she has a unique way of instilling the same drive and passion in her students and supervisees alike. It’s virtually impossible to learn from her and not extract a deep interest in the subject matter.”

Erin Malcom, University of North Texas PhD Student

“It is so clear how much Dr. Line cares about her craft and her students, and I frequently stop to feel grateful for her endless support and encouragement. Dr. Line’s positive regard makes me feel it is okay to make mistakes, learn, and grow in my own way.”

Former Graduate Student

“Dr. Ahou Line is a truly remarkable human. I vividly remember the first time I sat in a room with her, as my jaw remained on the floor for quite some time in utter awe of her brilliance. She embodies such profound grace, wisdom, and a contagious passion for her work. She leads the mental health field as an expert clinician, educator, supervisor, researcher, and author, a unique blend of talent and skills that sets her apart. Despite her many accomplishments she maintains an approachable humility and is deeply dedicated to holistically empowering others. Dr. Line leads with strength and heart, facilitating dynamic client experiences everywhere she goes. Whether you are reading one of her many publications, seeking a powerful keynote, or looking for therapeutic guidance, Ahou will forever be a top choice!”

“Over the years of working closely with Ahou, I have witnessed firsthand what an exceptional counselor and play therapist she is. She brings deep wisdom to her work, supporting her clients’ growth with compassion and insight, while her humility makes her deeply trustworthy. I’ve also had the privilege of collaborating with her on presentations and publications. Each time, I’ve learned from her ever-growing knowledge, her commitment to excellence, and her unwavering integrity. It’s no exaggeration to say that you’ll experience all of this through her dynamic presentation style and warm, engaging personality.”
